kashi

ok, as i said in my "about me" post, i'm in the army @ an AFB. well, we get to stay in these neat little rooms that have microwaves, and fridges, and freezers. i have a rice cooker that i bought on my own. it's very convienent... anyways, i like to plan my meals for the week on saturday/sunday. so, since i'm trying very hard to be vegan, i decided to plan as follows:
Monday:
breakfast: 1/2 c. oatmeal mixed with 1c. grapes, 1/2 banana
lunch: soup, if it's vegan, and a big salad with whatever vegetables there are available, brown rice if they have it.
dinner: Amy's vegan pizza (the cheeseless one with all of the roasted veggies on it... did you know they make a personal sized one? i just found out!) with a glass of herbal tea, sweatened by agave nectar
snack in between breakfast and lunch: an apple or pear, whatever looks more apitizing when i grab it in the morning.
snack in between lunch and dinner: an apple or pear, whichever one i haven't eaten yet ;)

our workout time is getting changed from 0600 to 1530, or around then... so, my breakfast can be lighter now, because i didn't JUST work out, my lunch can just be lunch...nothing special... and my dinner is where the protein needs to kick in, because i'll have just worked out with my running group, plus gone and worked out on my own. hurray for gyms!

well, i'll post again tomorrow and let whoever is maybe reading this know how it goes. my goal is just to be vegan for a month. but, it's gonna be the kind like in TKD. as little processed foods as possible, (i know, the title is kashi, give me a second to explain) and without white sugar or flour... actually no sugar. maple syrup or agave nectar only! once i do it for a month, i'll re evaluate, and decide what to do from there!!!

kashi: the world's greatest frozen dinner makers. i know it says above that i'm going to try and stay away from processed foods, but i don't think kashi as very bad at all. and, to top it off, they have MULTIPLE vegan (and vegetarian) dishes to choose from! i just had the Tuscan Veggie Bake. AMAZING. that's all i've got to describe it. it was a little expensive, but sometimes, it's cheeper because i'm not buying for a family of 8, i'm buying for just me. so i don't need to buy all 8 tortillas, i only need 1. thank you kashi. my next one to try is going to be the black bean mango... but i dont' know where to find it... oh well, i'll try!! go kashi!

hello!!!

hello!!! this is my first blog entry!!! i'll introduce myself: I am from Las Vegas, NV. I don't currently live there right now, though. I live on an Air Force Base. no, silly, i'm not in the air force. i'm in the army. i'm currently doing my training for my job, and will be here until april-ish. The AFB is in Texas, and that's one problem with being a vegan. texas. the steak eating state of our country. but, i'll get into that later...
I have been on and off vegan for a month now, and have decided to make the complete transition yesturday. well, actually the day before, but it was late at night, so it doesn't really count. I bought Alicia Silversone's book: The Kind Diet, and read it all in like a day. It is a really good book and it really puts vegan eating into perspective. yes, i'm all for saving the animals, but i'm really into veganism for the nutrition behind it. But, it wasn't until I read that book that i was convinced that veganism is the healthiest choice for me, and it's always a bonus to save the animals (especially after spending thanksgiving on my uncle's farm, and petting cows and pigs!!)
One of the hardest things for me currently isn't finding food, i can do that... even if it means spending a little extra. but, i eat in a dining facility that is vegetarian, but not vegan, friendly. They have salads, and cooked vegetables, of course. but, going along with TKD (i'm not writting it out every single time) i want to eat whole grains, such as brown rice, 100% whole wheat bread (if a have to) and etc... they love white rice here, and potatos (which aren't the kind of carbs i need) and the pasta is filled with white, proccessed, flour. ug. so, if i ever complain, that is probably what it's going to be about.
that, and my friends. most of my friends are ok with me being vegan. then i have the friends who think that they are right no matter what, and that eating meat is how you become american. um, no. i defend myself, but they are the kind that would hold burger king up to my face and tell me it's delicious. i hate beef. it's NOT delicious.
So that's kinda it about me! i love to type, so this could be fun!!! I'll put recipies i try, whether i like them or not, and so forth and so forth...
Message/comment me please!!! i'll be any vegan/vegetarian's friend!!! (do they do that on this blog site? oh well)
